Please be aware of the four levels of library instruction and choose one that is suitable for your class.

1. General library overview and orientation - This includes tours and very basic instruction to resources, such as hours, location, contact information, and major resources.

2. Discipline level - a broad view of the resources specific to the discipline or subject area. Instruction sessions at this level are geared toward all majors in the subject area and taught to a variety of classes within the discipline.

3. Course level - more detailed instruction tailoring the use of the resources to a specific class in the student's course of study.

4. Assignment/Task level - specific to assignment/point-of-need. Instruction is designed to teach students the skills needed to complete a specific assignment. It is best to time the instruction as close to the assignment date as possible. The students are highly motivated to learn at that point, as they are guided through an assignment or exercise. Library instruction is usually more effective when delivered at this "point-of need" - when the student has to complete an assignment.
