Finding Books - Subject Search
Subject Heading Search

A subject heading search, however, only finds items on a particular topic. Subject headings use predetermined words and phrases developed at the Library of Congress, not the common phrases used in everyday speech. For example, books about the Civil War have the subject heading:

United States--History—Civil War, 1861-1865

For this reason it is more practical to start with a keyword search, find a relevant item, and click on related subject headings for that item.
